Laser Gum Treatments

Modern dentistry constantly seeks new ways to make treatment more effective and comfortable for our patients.

One of the greatest innovations is the dental laser. Lasers can help dentists perform periodontal surgeries in a way that makes the entire process much more comfortable and accurate for our patients. Lasers are light energy, concentrated into small beams that take the place of traditional surgical procedures.

Benefits of Laser Dentistry

Before bringing any new technology into our practice, our dentists want to make sure that it truly benefits our patients. Laser dentistry is one of the treatments that has dramatically improved patient care.

The benefits of laser dentistry include:

  • Efficient treatment
  • Faster healing time
  • Less discomfort
  • Less bleeding
  • More precise surgery
  • Preserves more healthy tissue
  • Better restorative conditions

Patients undergoing gum surgery appreciate that laser dentistry offers highly successful and more comfortable results.

Periodontal Gum Treatments

In the early stages of gum disease, we can often treat your condition with a series of highly focused dental cleanings and the use of a local antibiotic treatment, called Arestin.

Once we clean the tartar and bacteria from your gum tissue, it begins to heal. As long as you maintain your home care and dental appointments, you can see dramatic improvement. While we may recommend a more frequent hygiene schedule as you heal, much of your success depends on great home care!

For some patients in later stages of periodontal disease, their tissue is so infected that surgery is required in order for them to completely heal.

Periodontal Laser Surgery

Once gum disease reaches an advanced stage, some of your gum tissue begins to die or will never heal properly. Before dental lasers, we would have to remove that gum tissue the old-fashioned way. This resulted in the removal of more healthy tissue than necessary. Dental lasers provide exceptional precision so that we can preserve your healthy tissue.

By removing bacteria and diseased gum tissue, we promote healthy tissue and allow your infection to heal.

Other Gum Treatments

If you need another type of gingival (gum) surgery, dental lasers can make nearly any soft tissue treatment a success!

Gingival sculpting – removes excess gum tissue
Frenectomy – addresses tissue problems including tongue ties
Restoration preparation – prepares the gum tissue for crowns, bridges, and veneers

Laser dentistry for these treatments provides our patients with exceptional results and provides greater comfort.
